Trying to catch the last ferry to Zanzibar?
Attempting to catch the last ferry from Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar, which leaves at 16:00, could sometimes be costly. The distance between the airport and the ferry terminal is only 12km. It takes about 30-45min to get across. However, the traffic in Dar Es Salaam can be unpredictable. Therefore, we advise all arrivals after 14:30 to take our last flight from Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar at 17:10 if they're to make it across on the same day. Otherwise, they'd need to spend the night in Dar Es Salaam in order to ferry to Zanzibar the next day.
Getting between the international and domestic terminals
Both terminals are within the same premises, though entered through different gates. The gates are about 1km apart.

All ferries are spacious with over 500 seats. Currently, the ones operating are Kilimanjaro 7 and 8. The following are the prices of each class onboard including Economy Class (ECO), VIP Class (VIP) and Royal Class (ROY). Occasionally, there is Business Class (BUS) though not consistent as the primary vessels don't have it. Business is only available when there are extras on the schedules. We only book the basic schedule as only that schedule is guaranteed.

Early-flight arrivals catching the first ferry to Zanzibar
Early airport arrivals aiming for the first ferry from Dar Es Salaam to Zanzibar are picked up at 05:30. The ferry terminal opens at 05:45. It's much safer for those arriving earlier to wait at the airport until 05:30, rather than outside the closed terminal.
Missed the last ferry?
Those who miss the last ferry to Dar Es Salaam and in fear of messing up the entire trip back can still make it to the last flight from Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam. There is a flight at 17:15 and 17:45. The distance between the ferry terminal in Zanzibar and the airport is only 8km, much shorter than Dar Es Salaam. Plus, there's no heavy traffic in between, so you'd take about 20-30min to make it.
